The New York Beer Project - Orlando

rhilferding

We visited New York Beer Project on a Saturday in the early afternoon. The main dining room (?) had a 40 minute wait. We then we offered to sit at the bar or find a low top in the brewery area. I must say, as I am a former head brewer, that the cleanliness of the brewery was spot on.

I stepped away to retrieve my glasses and my wife ordered for us while I was trying to remember where we parked. (hint: I'm a boomer)

They allow substitutions on the side so she ordered grilled asparagus. It was a nice change since fries and I sometimes don't play well.

I have eaten at a NYBP near Rochester a couple of years ago. This was different.

The beef all comes medium according to the server. Ours was medium (looked like sous vida cooking to me} The was a fair amount of beef, but my wife and I felt like this was one of the smaller portions we have tried in Florida.

The flavor of the beef was very, very mild. It was as if it was boiled (there's that sous vida again) without any seasoning. It was tender and sliced thin. 3 points.

The roll had a good balance of salt to caraway, but the salt crystals were huge. We joked that they must be using road salt. The roll was grilled but the top was not dipped in au jus

The roll receives 2 points

The Au jus tasted bland and mixy - kind of like Great Value Au Jus mix. No points for this yuck.

The Horseradish was good- nice and bitey! 1 point

The pickle was a bit soft but well flavored 1 point

Total score is 7/10 which in this case is disappointing low. The beef was flavorless, the au jus was dreadful, and the rest was ok. It is very unlikely we will return.
